Another biopic surrounded by controversy!
Following the recent release of Elvis, a film about Elvis Presley, comes Sofia Coppola‘s Priscilla, offering a unique perspective. The movie delves into the story of Elvis Presley’s young bride, portrayed by Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown). In this rendition, the role of Elvis will be played by Jacob Elordi (Euphoria).
This week, after the release of the A24 film’s teaser, officials from the Elvis Estate expressed their anger. They informed TMZ that the movie was produced without their knowledge or consent, accusing it of being a mere money-making scheme!
While one might have anticipated their discontent to stem from the content itself, the officials appear more concerned about the aesthetics. According to an official who viewed the film, they described it as “terrible,” criticizing the set designs as not accurately representing Graceland.
What does Priscilla, the subject of the film, think? Given that it is her story, based on her 1985 memoir Elvis and Me, it would seem that she would be in favor, right? Indeed! Speaking to TMZ, she shared her excitement:
“I am very excited to see Sofia Coppola’s interpretation of my book. Sofia has an extraordinary perspective, and I have always admired her work. I am certain that this movie will take audiences on an emotional journey.”
Well, it seems that you can’t please everyone. Even the Oscar-nominated film by Baz Luhrmann received mixed reviews. So, what do YOU think, Perezcious cinephiles? Will you be watching it?
