Ubisoft and Massive’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be released on December 7th for Xbox, Playstation and PC, as announced in a recent Ubisoft Forward event.
Originally meant to release towards the end of last year alongside Avatar: Way of the Water movie, the game’s launch may be impacted by the absence of new Avatar content on the big screen. Despite both movies grossing large sums of money, the franchise’s popularity remains a mystery.
Ubisoft also released a trailer highlighting the game’s features. The game seems to be following the typical Ubisoft open-world formula, with some similarities to Far Cry, but the world is stunning, and playing as the Na’vi could be entertaining. However, Avatar is not Ubisoft’s first attempt to adapt James Cameron’s movies. The company released Avatar: The Game in 2009, which sold 2.7 million copies.
Ubisoft has three different versions of the game available for pre-order through their website, but it may be best to wait for the game’s release to see what state it is in.
